The Wildwoods consists of three unique communities: North Wildwood, located just north of the center of Wildwood with Wildwood Crest just to the south. With miles of wide, white sandy beaches and boardwalk and endless places to play, shop and eat. The Wildwoods is a great place to vacation!
Beaches
New Jersey maintains the highest standards in ocean water quality of any state in the country. Rated "New Jersey's best sport beach" by Travel Holiday Magazine, Wildwood's free (no beach tags) white sandy beaches are some of the most expansive anywhere. Beachgoers can glide along the sand on the State's first beach tram, introduced in 1994, traveling from the street to the shore line.
Boardwalk
The 38-block Wildwood boardwalk is lined with amusement piers, water parks, specialty shops, theaters, eateries and restaurants. This 2.5 mile wooden walkway has something for the young and the young-at-heart. Bring or rent a bike to ride along the promenade from 6 a.m. to 11 a.m. everyday. Stroll or ride the tram cars along the boardwalk while enjoying a breathtaking view of the Atlantic Ocean and all the sights and sounds the Wildwoods have to offer.
What to Do
Shopping is abundant in the Wildwoods from the Holly Beach Mall to the New Jersey Avenue merchants... the choices are endless. The summer air is filled with oldies music at the dockside, rock and roll at the clubs and ethnic sing-a-longs all over town. During the summer season, an estimated 2 million visitors come to the Wildwoods. Of course, the kids go crazy for the non-stop action on Morey's Piers – three incredible piers offering seven world-class roller coasters, two huge beachfront waterparks and family rides galore.
Attractions
The Wildwoods are centrally located between Atlantic City (50-minute drive) and Historic Cape May (10-minute drive). The Cape May County zoo, museums, tennis, golf, horseback riding and coach rides are all within easy distance. General tourist information can be gathered by calling 1-800-WW-BY-SEA.
Architecture
A signature attribute of the Wildwoods is the prevalence of Doo Wop architecture – the 50s theme of angular architecture, neon lighting and happy days' colors.
Watersports/Fishing
The Wildwoods are second to none when it comes to water sports and fishing cruise fleets. There are a variety of crafts offering half-day and full-day fishing excursions in New Jersey's back bays and the Atlantic Ocean. Jet skiing, water skiing, boating and whale watching are bountiful in the inland waterways or along most docks in the Wildwoods.
Transportation
The Wildwoods are accessible by car (Parkway exit 6-4B), motor coach (New Jersey Transit) and ferry (Cape May Lewes Ferry) from all shore points. There is an island-wide bus and trolley service to whisk vacationers to their daily activities.
